Comparison

Why a UniMFA course and not just e-learning?

There are different ways to prepare for the professional exams. See what each of them involves.

Self-study

E-learning and test apps

from approx. CZK 500 per area

Cheap preparation for the test itself

Self-study only, no lecturer

No case studies or client work

Each area has to be covered separately

No MŠMT certificate

In-house training

Training in an advisory network

“free”, but with conditions

Quick start in one firm

The training is tailored to that firm’s products and procedures

Usually conditional on a cooperation contract

The costs may be deducted from commissions or the firm may want them back – the CNB warns about this too

No MŠMT certificate

FAQ

Questions we are often asked

Answers to questions about the professional exams, the course and payment.

Professional exams and the advisor’s job

Which professional exams does the course prepare me for?

All four areas in which the professional exam is taken: consumer credit (including housing loans), investments, insurance and supplementary pension savings. Each area has its own group of modules and at the end of the course you take a mock exam.

Where is the professional exam taken?

You do not take the professional exam at the CNB itself but with an accredited person (exam provider) accredited by the CNB. The exam is taken separately for each area and you receive a certificate once you pass. The list of accredited providers is on the CNB website.

Are the professional exam fees included in the course price?

No. You take the professional exams with an accredited provider and pay the fee directly to them. The price depends on the area and the exam centre; with some providers it starts at roughly CZK 1,200 per exam. You choose the exam date yourself once you are ready.

Can I work as a financial advisor straight after the course?

Not automatically. For registration the CNB requires three things: general knowledge (the maturita school leaving certificate), professional knowledge (the passed professional exam for the given area) and a good reputation (including a clean criminal record). The course gives you a retraining certificate and prepares you for the professional exams. You then obtain authorisation by being entered in the CNB register or by being granted a licence.

How much does a financial advisor earn and are they in demand?

According to Platy.cz, 80 % of financial advisors earn between CZK 39,885 and 134,794 gross per month, and around CZK 119,000 with 5 years of experience. Income often depends on commissions and the number of clients. Banks, insurers and advisory firms are looking for advisors – see current vacancies on Jobs.cz.

The course and teaching

Do I need previous experience or a degree in economics?

No. The course starts with the basics of the financial market and gradually takes you through all the areas you need for the exams. A degree in economics is an advantage but not a requirement. You do, however, need the maturita school leaving certificate – without it the CNB will not register you as an advisor.

In which language is the course taught?

The course is taught in Czech, so you need Czech at least at level A2. Our team will help you with organisational questions, the schedule and access to study materials.

How is the course taught and how much time will it take?

Lessons run live online on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings – you will find the exact schedule under Course dates. You can ask the lecturer anything straight away. Besides the lessons, allow time for revision and test questions; how much depends on your existing knowledge.

What if I miss a lesson?

No problem. Every lesson is recorded and the recordings are available for 12 months, so you can catch up whenever it suits you. To be admitted to the final exam, however, you need at least 80 % attendance.

What is the final exam like and what certificate will I receive?

The course ends with a final test in which you need at least 80 % correct answers; attendance of at least 80 % is also required. Once you pass, you receive a retraining certificate (osvědčení o rekvalifikaci) with MŠMT accreditation, valid throughout the Czech Republic. The retraining certificate does not replace the professional exam with an accredited provider.

Price and payment

How can I pay for the course? Can I pay in instalments?

You can pay by bank transfer, card or cash, via Benefit Plus, or your employer can pay for you. Instalments are possible too – we agree the terms individually.

Can I buy just part of the course?

Yes. Some topics are also available as short stand-alone courses: Mortgages and housing finance, Investing, and AML and compliance, each for CZK 4,500. More are on the way. You will find them all under Individual modules.

Can the Labour Office (Úřad práce) pay for the course?

In some cases retraining can be paid for by the Czech Labour Office (Úřad práce). At the moment, however, it provides funding only to a limited extent. We will be happy to advise whether and how to apply.

Didn’t find your answer?

Call us on +420 774 057 609 (Mon–Fri 9:00–17:00) or leave your details in the application form. We will get back to you within one working day.
